19th Century

Pontes’ history as carnauba wax manufacturer started in the 19th century when the family “Brasileiro Pontes” produced crude carnauba wax.

1956

Liaderson Pontes took over the business and Pontes Industria became an internationally recognised business as a strategic carnauba wax producer.

1960

The company built its original production site at Ceará’s Capital, Fortaleza.

1971

The leadership of the company passed to Liaderson’s son, Domingos, who steered the operation through almost a quarter century of development and growth.

1995

Domingos’s daughter, Lara, assumed the role of President of Pontes Indústria, and remains in the post today.

1999

The first Carnauba wax manufacturer to be certified by ISO 9001.

2016

The first manufacturer of Carnauba wax to be certified by FSSC.

2018

Expansion and new innovative production systems and processes.

2019

Pontes opened the first and unique carnauba model farm. This production site is exclusively for Organic Carnauba Wax.

2019

“Pontes para o Crescimento” programme received Benchmarking certification.

2020

First Carnauba company be certified Vegan.

2020

The Bioethical Carnauba Seal assures a more ethical and sustainable carnauba wax production.

Pontes Industria leads the way in environmental stewardship by being the first company in the sector to achieve 100% carbon neutrality. This milestone was accomplished by meticulously measuring and neutralising CO2 emissions across all operations, as verified under the GHG Protocol Brazil.

Additionally, Pontes’ commitment to using 100% renewable energy sources in Piauí, primarily from biomass and solar energy, contributes to our sustainability goal by preventing the emission of 478,68 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. This pioneering approach not only sets a benchmark, but also demonstrates the potential for sustainable production worldwide.

Responsible Carnauba – Pursuing ethical Carnauba production.

Our Responsible Carnauba initiative highlights our profound commitment to environmental conservation and carbon management. We have undertaken the conservation of 19,117 hectares of Carnauba groves, as well as the restoration of green spaces and degraded areas.

Sourcing with sustainability – Ensuring end-to-end integrity.

Adopting a “Zero Waste” philosophy, Pontes achieves an astonishing 98% rate of reutilisation, reuse, and recycling of its industrial waste. This initiative prevents the disposal of approximately 1,233 tons of garbage each year.

By integrating these practices into our ‘Sourcing with Sustainability’ strategy, we not only minimise environmental impact but also set a sustainable example for others in the Carnauba industry.
